It was a strong preseason debut for Texans first-round quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson completed 15-of-25 passes for 179 yards and added a 15-yard rushing touchdown in Houston's 27-17 loss to the Panthers at Carolina. The Clemson product wasn't the only rookie to flash well in his first action. Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey ran seven times for 33 yards. Damiere Byrd had four catches for 98 yards and two scores for Carolina. Kelvin Benjamin shined in the first quarter after rumblings of him being out of shape surfaced during the summer. Benjamin had a 23-yard TD catch in the win.
