Police are now blaming a 'mental crisis' for a massive wreck on the city's southwest side Tuesday afternoon that involved multiple vehicles and sent four people to the hospital, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say the driver of a Ford pickup was suffering from a 'mental crisis' and had previously injured himself inside his home when he jumped into the truck and intentionally went out to hurt other people.
Police say the Ford pickup drove eastbound on Southwest Military Drive, 'intentionally disregarding stop signals' and smashing into multiple vehicles.
He then apparently intentionally slammed into a mobile home at SW Military and Bynum, knocking a TV to fall off a stand onto a one year old child.
The child and the other people who were hurt were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.
Police say the man was 'combative' when he was taken into custody by police, and was later referred for 'emergency detention' at SAMMC.
No word yet on what criminal charges he may face.
