Saturday and Sunday Both Broke 50 Plus Year Heat Records

1960.

North Star Mall opened for business, after first running ads in San Antonio newspapers explaining to people the concept of an indoor, air conditioned shopping mall, because nobody here had ever seen one before.

In 1960, before either Mayor Ron Nirenberg or former Mayor Ivy Taylor had been born, San Antonio hit 104 degrees on July 30 of that year, setting a heat record for that date which was not broken until we officially measured 105 degrees yesterday.

Sunday was the second straight day of broken weather records in San Antonio.  Saturday's 103 degree high broke a record that was even older, set back in 1946.

Richard Llewellen of the Weather Channel says 13 of the 31 days in July topped 100 degrees, that's a record.  In fact, we have seen 15 triple digit days so far this summer.

Every single day in July saw a high temperature of at least 92 degrees.

The good news: as we move into August, the triple digit highs are fading away, and there are indications of a rainly spell in our forecast, starting later this week.
