FDA Wants To Cut Nicotine In Cigarettes

The  FDA will work to cut the amount  of nicotine in cigarettes to a point where it is not addictive. The  announcement was made by FDA Commissioner Scott  Gottlieb.  The FDA says tobacco is responsible for 480-thousand deaths a  year as well as hundreds of billions of dollars in medical costs.   Gottlieb said, quote "The overwhelming amount of death and disease  attributable to tobacco is caused by addiction to cigarettes -- the only  legal consumer product that, when used as intended, will kill half of  all long-term users."  The move is expected to be strongly opposed by cigarette makers.
