Austin Cops Pull Ford SUVs From Patrol

The Austin Police Department is pulling all 400 of its Ford Explorer police cruisers off the streets because of carbon monoxide fears.

Police Chief Brian Manley says officers started having problems with exhaust fumes getting into the passenger compartment back in February.  Since then, 62 officers have filed complaints about carbon monoxide in their systems.  The department has identified 200 other vehicles are made available for officers to uses and some will begin riding in pairs.

Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are both investigating.  The probe now covers more than one-point-three million Explorers from 2011 through 2017.  The NTSB has received more than 27-hundred complaints.
