James Matthew Bradley, 60, the man who is facing the death penalty for driving a truck load of illegal immigrants into San Antonio, where ten of them died, is no stranger to the legal system, according to public records searched by 1200 WOAI news.
Bradley has been charged with a variety of offenses dating back to the mid 1990, when he was charged with felony menacing and menacing with a deadly weapon in suburban Denver.
That was followed by charges ranging from felony escape to grand theft. His parole was revoked and he spent nearly a year in prison in Colorado.
The federal magistrate who heard Bradley's case on Monday will have to decide on Thursday whether to release him on bond pending trial. Federal prosecutors have already asked that he be held without bond.
While federal officials gave an address of Clearwater Florida for Bradley, officials tell 1200 WOAI news there is no record of a James M. Bradley in Clearwater, and he apparently actually lives in Kentucky.
All of this will be taken into consideration when the bond hearing is held later this week.
