Immigration authorities have rounded up 123 illegal immigrants during an eight day operation in Central and South Texas, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it concentrated on illegal immigrants who had been deported but re-entered the country, or those who committed crimes while in Texas. But the crimes committed by those arrested include drunk driving and marijuana possession, an indication of the new hard line being taken by the Trump Administration and the Department of Homeland Security toward people who enter the U.S. illegally.
Among those arrested in the roundup is a 51 year old Mexican national living in San Antonio who was twice convicted of lewd acts on a child and impregnating a minor, and he was arrested recently for re-entering Texas after being deported.
One of those arrested was deported four times, but yet was arrested in Laredo. The crimes committed by those arrested, apart from illegal re-entry, include aggravated assault, assault, child abuse, domestic violence, cocaine possession, fraud, and weapons possession.
The vast majority are from Mexico, but others are from Honduras, Guatamala, El Salvador, Jamaica, and Cuba.
All are being processed for deportation. Those who were arrested on other charges will have to serve their prison sentences, and then they will be deported.
