Term Limits Bill Introduced in Texas Legislature

US-POLITICS-EARLY-VOTING

Two resolutions that call for a vote on limiting the terms of statewide elected officials have been introduced in the Special Session of the Legislatuer that began today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The resolutions, by State Sen. Don Huffines (R-Dallas) won't go anywhere, because Gov. Abbott has not placed the issue of terms of elected officials on the agenda, and only the governor controls what is called in a Special Session.

Huffines' bills, Senate Joint Resolution 9 and Senate Joint Resolution 10, call for a Constutional Amendment to limit the terms of the governor, and other statewide elected officials to two four year terms.

They also call for the terms of members of the Legislature to be limited to six sessions.  Since a session meets every two years, that would impose a limit of three four-year terms for members of the Texas Senate, and six two year terms for members of the Texas House.
