Man Shot by Police After Threatening 15 Year Old

A man was shot and killed by San Antonio Police this morning after he threatened to kill a 15 year old inside a west side home, and pointed a gun at officers, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police Chief William McManus says police were called for a disturbance at Merida and Plaza del Sol, off Zarzamora Street, about 7AM.

When they got there, they were told that a man, a woman, and three children were inside the home, and the man had pointed a gun at the teenager.

Gunshots were heard inside the house and officers entered.

"A third officer showed up to assist the other two," McManus said.  "Suspect left the home and continued to walk toward the officers, the officers were trying to negotiate with him to get him to drop the weapon.  He wouldn't do so, and he pointed the weapon at the third officer.  The officer shot him and he was pronounced (dead)."

McManus says nobody else was hurt.

"The three children were not hurt, the woman, I assume she was the mother, she was not hurt, officers were not hurt, the only person who was hurt was the suspect with a gun."

He says the dead gunman had a history of violence.

"I'm told that he has been a problem," he said.  "We were here last month, and we arrested him for family violence."
