As expected, the San Antonio Water System today imposed Stage One water restrictions, the first water rationing in San Antonio in two years, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"This just means that citizens have to go to once a week watering," SAWS' Anne Hayden said. "Since its been a while, if you don't remember it, it is based on the last number of your street address."
The hours where watering is allowed is before 11AM and after 7PM on your day of watering.
"We have enjoyed the rain, and there is an abundance of water, but because the aquifer has dropped below 660 on the ten day average, we, by law, are required to do this."
Also by law, the restrictions must stay in place for at least thirty days.
This also means the 'water police' will be active, writing up citations to water wasters.
