San Antonio Gas Prices Lowest in the State, Among Lowest in USA

Koehler Urges Higher Gas Prices

Despite the fact that we are now in the busiest driving season of the entire year, San Antonio gas prices aren't budging from their ten year lows, holding firm at an average of $1.95 gallon, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

That is the lowest gas price in the state, and one of the lowest in the entire country. It is also the first time this century that gas prices have been this low at this busy time of year.  It was nine years ago this week that San Antonio gas prices hit their all time record high, averaging $3.96 a gallon.

“Texas drivers are still enjoying some of the lowest gas prices in the country,” said AAA Texas/AAA New Mexico Representative Daniel Armbruster. “Analysts say slight price increases remain possible throughout July, so now’s the time to hit the road. Stop by any AAA Texas branch and speak with a travel agent for assistance planning your next vacation.”

AAA Texas says an inability of OPEC to hold production down in an attempt to keep prices high is leading to an unexpectedly high supply of gasoline for this time of year.

Several OPEC nations, most notably Libya and Nigeria, have openly increased production, and other countries are finding it impossible to hold down production at a time when prices are falling.

The average across the state today is $2.05 a gallon, and the average nationwide is $2.26.San Antonio today is even paying less than we paid last year, when oil prices hit a low below $30 a barrel.

In fact, this is the least we have paid for gasoline at this time of year in San Antonio this century.
