The City of San Antonio today unveiled the second of what will eventually be ten murals and works of art which will adorn the Missions World Heritage Trail, providing, in the words of the World Heritage Public Art Project 'an aesthetic vision that reflects the rich history and culture of the missions, people, and neighborhoods within the area, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Cristina Noreiga, a San Antonio born artist, unveiled her four part mural called 'Four Seasons' which shows the animal and plant life which has been or is currently indigenous to the area
."How can we represent native plants and animals which have always been in this area, and do it seasonally," she said.
'Four Seasons' celebrates common plants and animals of today, from pecans and bluebonnets to whitetail deer, as well as the animals which were common in Texas in the past, like the black bear and the mountain lion.
She says being a part of the World Heritage Site is pretty amazing.
"Its the only one in Texas, what an honor to have something that I was a part of in this amazing place," she said.
The art work also depicts the lives of the Coahuiltecan banks that populated this area for thousands of years, before the coming of the Spanish.
