A Canadian man who is charged with stabbing his girlfriend in the city of Kitchener Ontario in April has been arrested in San Antonio, Canadian authorities said today.

Mike Hoffner of the Waterloo Regional Police in Ontario said today that Ager Hasan, 24, was arrested when he was apparently on his way to Mexico.  He was picked up by the U.S. Secret Service on Tuesday in a traffic stop related to a counterfeiting investigation here.

Hoffner said today in Canada that the victim, Melinda Vasilije, 22, was found dead of multiple stab wounds in her apartment in the city of Hamilton.  Officials immediately focused on Hasan, who vanished the same day.

He says Hasan was spotted in Pennsylvania where he stole a license plate, and was also spotted in Tennessee.  A man claiming to be Hasan said on the web site Reddit that he planned to turn himself in.  Just Monday, a man claiming to be Hasan made the same comments on Instagram.

Police in Canada say Hasan is facing several charges, including second degree murder.

Extradition proceedings to send Hasan back to Canada are underway.
