SAWS: Water Restrictions 'Likely This Week'

Don't look now, but an old summer friend, water rationing, may be knocking at your door, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The San Antonio Water System says with the hot, dry days draining the Edwards Aquifer, we will 'likely see' Stage One water restrictions imposed 'later this week.'

New Braunfels Utilities is imposing Stage One restrictions this morning, after the Aquifer dropped below the benchmark 660 foot level where water restrictions are imposed.SAWS says it uses a 'ten day averaging' plan, which was imposed to prevent the city from jumping into and out of water restrictions, as happened in the early days of mandatory water conservation efforts.

"The 10 day average for the J-17 well was 661.4 feet on Monday, so the entire region is approaching Stage One," said Suzanne Williams, the Environmental Affairs Manager for New Braunfels Utilities.

This will be the first water restrictions we have seen since the summer of 2015.

In case you have forgotten, Stage One means landscape watering using a sprinkler or in ground watering system one day a week only, based on the last digit of your street address.

There are also restrictions imposed for car washes, swimming pools, and other water users.

And...the 'water police' will be coming out of hiding, and will be issuing citations to water wasters.
