A cable TV installer was shot and seriously wounded this afternoon when he was stringing cable at a west side apartment, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say Kyle Ballard, 30, was on a ladder outside the back door of an apartment on Merida Street, on the city's west side, when a bullet from a large caliber handgun, fired from inside an apartment, struck him in the stomach.
The victim fell off the ladder and ran into a nearby apartment, where he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Witnesses told police what the suspects looked like, and a man and a woman matching that description were stopped nearby and are being questioned.
No word on a possible motive, but one resident of the apartment told 1200 WOAI's Michael Board that crime in the area is so bad, pizza restaurants have stopped delivering there.
