Firefighters: West Side House Fire Looks Suspicious

Firefighters have been busy at the scene of an overnight house fire early today, as questions remain about the cause of the fire, which destroyed an unoccupied home, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

By the time firefighters arrived at the house in the 2600 block of West Houston street, west of downtown, shortly before midnight, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

It took 15 fire companies 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, and by then the house was a total loss.

But, since the house was unoccupied at the time, arson investigators say it looks suspicious.  The home apparently had no electricity or gas hooked up at the time.

Also, neighbors said the house had been used by squatters, so firefighters will be checking the rubble carefully to make sure nobody was inside at the time.  Right now, there are no indications that anybody was hurt or killed in the fire.
