Gang Member Gets 50 Years in East Side Murder

A 40 year old gang member will have to strut around and flash his dorky gang signs inside a prison cell until he's 90 years old, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Arthur Whitley, a known gang member with a long history of violence, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting his cousin to death in his east side home for no other reason than to show what a tough guy he was.

But Whitley wasn't a very smart guy.  He was arrested in a matter of hours, and cell phone records and text messages clearly linked him to the murder.

Jurors didn't buy Whitley's claims that he was asleep at a halfway house, where he was doing time for a previous violent crime, when the murder occurred.

Because of his record as a multiple loser, Whitley will have to do at least a quarter century in prison before he will be able to even see a parole officer.
