One Killed, Five Hurt When Stolen Car Crashes on NW Loop 410

One person is dead and five others hospitalized after a stolen car that was being chased by police blew a tire and spun out of control on Loop 410 near Evers Rd. early this morning, smashed into the retaining wall, and then slammed into several other cars, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The incident also prompted the Loop to be closed in both directions for the police investigation.

Police say it all began about 2:30 this morning at Loop 410 at Valley Hi when officers were told of a carjacking at gunpoint.

It turned out the stolen car was equipped with a Lojack tracking device, and police immediately noticed it was being driven northbound on Loop 410 and gave chase.

The chase reached speeds of up to 100 miles an hour as the stolen car tried to evade officers.As the stolen car passed Bandera Rd. a tire blew out. The stolen car spun around and slammed into a concrete retaining wall, then bounced off and hit several other vehicles.

One man in the stolen car was killed instantly.

Five other people were hurt, including three women and a child who were trapped in one of the other vehicles and had to be cut out by the Jaws of Life.

Police are investigating the incident.
