100 Mile an Hour Plus Chase Winds Through West Side

Several men who were suspected of stealing car batteries from a northwest side Walmart led police on a wild chase at the start of the morning rush hour this morning, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Two vehicles, a green Honda and a white pickup truck, jumped onto Loop 410 at Bandera Road and proceeded to go more than 100 miles an hour as they wound down the Loop, all the way to Highway 90, where they turned back toward the city, then veered off into a west side neighborhood.

Police on the ground called off the chase due to mounting rush hour traffic, but a police helicopter followed the vehicles, spotlighting them from the air so officers on the ground could keep an eye on them.

After going up and down several west side streets, occupants of the pickup bailed out near San Patricio and Veracruz and fled on foot.  Officers are continuing the search for them.

Sure enough, the bed of the pickup turned out to be full of car batteries.
