Firefighters Battle Heat, Humidity, Along with Early Morning Fire

This morning's hot, humid conditions prompted additional firefighters to be called to a fire at a commercial building south of Ft. Sam Houston this morning, to make sure the firefighters got a break from the heat, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The fire broke out on the I-35 access road near Pine Street about 3AM.  A fire station is just three blocks away, but by the time units arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof of the building.

The on scene captain immediately called for the 'rehab bus,' which is an air conditioned vehicle where firefighters can go to recover from the heat while fighting a fire.

Firefighters were also hampered by broken glass, nails, and other construction equipment in the burning building.

Nobody was hurt, but the structure will be a total loss. City officials will be called in to determine if it needs to be demolished.

Arson investigators are on the scene trying to determine the cause of the fire.
