SAT Seeing Record Traffic

San Antonio International Airport is taking off.

News Radio 1200 WOAI reports the 737,000 people who got onto or off an airplane in April made for the biggest April ever for SAT.  The passenger volume was up 5.4% over April of 2016.  It's the 10th straight month that the airport has seen enplanement and deplanement growth.

Also growing is the air cargo passing through the airport, with 19 million pounds of cargo in April, up 1.9% from the year before.

International capacity is up 8.5% and airport officials say the addition of Air Canada's daily flight, as well as new service to Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Cancun should result in more growth in international traffice.

The city has been working hard to add non stop flights and international flights to the airport.  A Commission will begin work this summer to look at the long term future of the airport, including whether a new airport is needed.
