Early voting begins today for the June 10th runoff election for Mayor, and challenger Ron NIrenberg today picked up the endorsement of popular former Mayor Phil Hardberger, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Hardberger's endorsement means both of the mayor who preceded Nirenberg's opponent, Mayor Ivy Taylor, have endorsed Nirenberg. Julian Castro backed the northwest side Councilman early in the campaign.
"Ron is teriffically prepared," Hardberger said. "Were he to become mayor, he would be the best prepared mayor that, I think, San Antonio has ever had."
Hardberger recalled the first time he ever met Nirenberg, he came to his office when he was running for District 8 City Council.
"He brought white papers, or position papers, that he had written on every conceivable subject, which is unheard of for a City Council candidate, Nirenberg said. "Then I started reading them, and I was more impressed."
Hardberger cited Nirenberg's popularity in District 8, which is the most diverse district in the city."He would be mayor for all the people," he said.
