The Texas House adjourned sine die at about 1:30 Monday afternoon, as a shouting match over the controversial law banning 'Sanctuary Cities' marked the final day, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
'Sine Die,' Latin for 'without date,' means that, unlike all of the previous 139 days, the House will not adjourn to a later date when business will continue.
But lawmakers should not make any summer vacation plans quite yet. A special session is certain, as lawmakers failed to approve two measures Gov Abbott has declared essential: A bill to regulate transgender bathroom use, and a bill to limit local property tax increases.
Protesters unfurled banners on the House floor to protest a bill that Abbott has already signed..banning 'Sanctuary' cities and college campuses.. One Republican lawmaker said he called 'immigration authorities' to investigate the immigration status of the protesters, and said a Democratic lawmaker threatened his life in the ensuing altercation.
Also today, Abbott signed a bill stripping cities of their authority to regulate Uber and Lyft, setting up statewide regulations for all ride sharing firms.
