A 25 year old woman was shot in the stomach overnight as she was putting her baby into a car seat at a southeast side gas station overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say the woman had stopped at the Citgo station in the 2000 block of Goliad Rd. and was putting the infant back into a carseat when a white Ford Expedition pulled up beside her.
The driver rolled down the window and fired one shot, hitting the woman in the abdomen.
The car then sped off down Goliad Rd.
The woman was rushed to SAAMC in extremely critical condition, and was later pronounced dead.
She was identified as Summer Perez.
Detectives right now have no evidence to indicate any connection between the gunman and the victim, and don't know whether he intended to shoot this woman, mistook her for somebody else, or whether the shooting was completely random.
The baby was not hurt.
