Now that the Spurs season is over, fans are left with one big question: What will Manu do?
The four-time NBA champ and two-time NBA all-star is now a free agent, and like Tim Duncan one year ago, there are rumors that the soon-to-be 40 year old may hang up the gym shoes.
Coach Gregg Popovich, in his final press conference of the year, says he doesn't think about a life without the Argentinian star
."Because he hasn’t decided what he wants to do. Maybe he'll be back for another year," he said.
Like the Duncan debate last year, Pop says he plans on giving Ginobili some space.
"We'll talk at some point, just like Timmy. Timmy didn’t decide right away. Usually it's best to take a little respite from basketball," he said.
The decision to retire is not an easy one for anyone, especially pro athletes, who become accustomed to the spotlight. WOAI's Michael Board recently spoke to former Spurs star David Robinson, who retired in 2003, about his decision to walk away from the game.
He says some do it better than others.
"You're really good at what you do. It's hard to step away from that and go to other things that you are not as confident as in. I don’t care if it's something simple as being a dad or being a husband. Those things are not as easy as what you were doing out there on the court."
He's dug roots in San Antonio. It seems, for now, that Duncan has done the same. If Ginobili does retire, Robinson would like to see him stay here, too.
"Invest themselves in the community more than they already have. You got to go to where you're called, but I love all those guys. I'd love to have them here."
