AT&T has quietly invested more than a half billion dollars into its enhanced high speed Internet system in metro San Antonio, according to a new report.
The Texas-based company says it is part of a $6.8 billion investment into wireless and wired networks across the state, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"We want customers to have Internet access at any moment, from almost any device anywhere," AT&T VP and former Chamber of Commerce Chair Renee Flores told News Radio 1200 WOAI.
She says super high speed reliable Internet service is rapidly becoming as important to homes and businesses as water, electricity, or any other utility, and AT&T's commitment will not only make metro San Antonio a better place to live, she says it will be a major asset moving forward in business and economic development.
"We now market our ultra fast Internet service powered by AT&T fiber to more than 175,000 customer locations in the San Antonio New Braunfels area," Flores said.
She says in conjunction with the City of San Antonio and with minimal disruption to residents, the super high speed service will soon be available to homes and businesses in all part of the metro.
She says AT&T is also a leader in cutting the Internet cord, and offering expanded public wi-fi opportunities, also with super high speed service.
"For us, it is really about providing Internet access from any moment, where the customer wants the service."
In addition, Flores announced that AT&T has recently been chosen by the First Responder Network Authority to create a nationwide public safety broadband network, which will be used specifically by police, firefighters, EMS personnel and other first responders.
