If you're not wearing a seat belt, yes, that is a police officer on your tail, because the Texas Department of Transportation is launching it's 15th annual 'Click it or Ticket' seat belt enforcement drive.
TxDOT's Laura Lopez says it has been effective in changing driving habits.
"Fifteen years ago. only 76% of Texans were using their seat belts, and today, we have 92%," Lopez said.
TxDOT estimates that more than 5,000 lives have been saved over the last 15 years by the seat belt enforcement program.
Texas is a 'primary offense' state, meaning you can be pulled over simply for not wearing a seat belt. Fines reach $200, or $250 if there is a child that is not restrained in your car.
Everybody in a vehicle has to be in a seat belt.
The enforcement operation begins May 22nd and runs through Memorial Day.
