Chanting 'Trump care is no care,' demonstrators marched to Sen. Ted Cruz' office in the Colonnade on the city's northwest side this afternoon, urging the Senator to vote against the Republican alternative to the Affordable Care Act, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The demonstrators heard passionate comments from parents and caregivers, who told how the pre existing conditions limitations of the proposed Republican health care bill, and the ability to charge people over 55 more for insurance, would bankrupt their families to line the pockets of big insurance.
One mom told of her young children who have been diagnosed with diseases which could disqualify them from getting health insurance, or allow the insurance companies to drastically increase premiums.
"They have amazing potential that they won't reach, if they do not have the support that they need," she said, choking back tears. "They need health care."
Another woman said she is actually holding off getting her four year old son formally diagnosed, because she is afraid if he has a diagnosed disease and Trumpcare kicks in, she will be frozen out of the health insurance market.
"The treatment runs around $10,000 a month, and will entirely bankrupt our family."
The protesters were courteous, making way for traffic as they marched through the Colonnade with drums and bullhorns.
