Support Pours in For Murdered Student as U.T. Seeks Answers in Wake of Knife Attack

A 'Go Fund Me' page dedicated to raising money for a memorial for Harrison Brown, the University of Texas freshman who was murdered in that stabbing incident on the U.T. campus on Monday, has raised more than $31,000 in just 12 hours, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Brown was an honor student from Graham, which is south of Wichita Falls.

The outpouring of support comes as police struggle to determine a motive for why Kendrix White, a 21 year old biology major from Killeen, suddenly pulled a 'Bowie style' knife and began stabbing and slashing students in the center of campus.

Three other students remain hospitalized, with wounds which are not life threatening.Erin was right in the middle of it.

"I had no idea what was happening," she told News Radio 1200 WOAI.  "I came in and everybody was running away.  So I immediately ran into the bathroom and took out my pepper spray, in case I needed to defend myself in any way."

In fact, many students were critical of the university's emergency alert system, saying they received more information from Facebook and from the local Austin media than they did from the University.  University officials said the emergency system was not activated because White surrendered immediately and there was no further danger to students.

Pesident Greg Fenves said he was appalled at the violence."It breaks my heart that any of our students are touched by tragedy," Fenves said.  "They come here to learn, and to look to the future."

It is the second murder on the University of Texas campus in 13 months.
