'Anarchists and Communists' To Lead San Antonio May Day Event

May Day has been the 'international workers holiday' since the 19th Century, but today expect May 1 to be an excuse for more anti-Trump rallies, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Organizers of the May Day rally at Milam Park downtown this afternoon make no apologies for who will be in charge of the event.

"Communists and Anarchists of San Antonio, will be holding a rally to demonstrate our strength as workers and to begin a way forward against our country's regime of austerity, oppression, and war," the organizers say in a press release announcing the event.

Opposition to the measure approved by the Texas House last week that would outlaw so called 'Sanctuary Cities' will be the focus of many May Day rallies today, including one at the State Capitol.

"SB4 may just be one of the most anti-immigrant pieces of legislation passed by a State legislature in the history of the United States.  Community members and leaders will deliver a message to Governor Greg Abbott that he should veto this piece of legislation, and, that if it should become law, communities will resist the legislation through the courts and through protests in the streets," the immigrant rights group RAICES said.

RAICES says the rally will allow people to show their opposition to what the group calls 'papers please' legislation which it calls an Anti-Democracy bill.

Similar rallies are planned for across Texas today.
