Evangelical and conservative groups which back that so called 'Bathroom Bill' are bringing out the 'little guns' to try to convince Texas House Speaker Joe Straus to bring the bill up for debate in the House, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The measure to limit use of public restrooms and school locker rooms to the gender on the person's birth certificate has passed the Senate, but conservatives say it is being blocked by Straus from debate in the House.
So the conservative groups trotted out little girls like Shiloh.
The 10 year old from Dripping Springs says she can't figure out what it is about this that grown ups don't get.
"Even if a boy wants to be a girl, he's not," she said. "He might emotionally feel that he is a girl, but he is physically a boy."
Along with Shiloh, several women told horror stories of being stalked, photographed, and harassed while they were in women's rest rooms.
Supporters of the 'Bathroom Bill' say predatory men will use 'Non Discrimination Ordinances' passed by cities to claim they are transgender and are using the restroom that matches their 'gender identity' to go into women's rest rooms and molest, harass, or sexually assault women.
Shiloh says she's only ten, but she worried about men attacking her in the girls room.
"Every time I go to the bathroom, I actually feel nervous ," she said. "I check the little locky thingee and the hook, I just check it, because I've heard stories like this, and I'm nervous."
On Tuesday, conservatives blasted Straus on the floor of the House, saying Straus is 'slow walking' the Bathroom Bill in an attempt to kill it.
Opponents of the bill say it is unnecessary, because crimes committed against women and girls are already against the law if they are committed in bathrooms just like if they were committed anywhere else. They say the bill sends a 'message of discrimination' against certain individuals, and would lead to a loss of jobs and major events locating in Texas.
