Like tens of thousands of Syrian nationals over the last few years, Motaz Al Afandi fled his homeland to escape a brutal civil war led by Syria's dictator, Bashar Al-Assad.
Now living in Texas, al-Afandi tells News Radio 1200 WOAI that he supports the actions of President Trump in launching cruise missiles against one of Al-Assad's air bases in Syria.
"If we get rid of Al-Assad, we won't need to be refugees any more," he said.
He says he and many Syrian refugees were opposed to President Trump earlier this year when Trump was trying to block Syrian refugees from entering the U.S., but he says he supports Trump in his aggressive action toward Syria.
"We were seeking the help of the United States against Al-Assad, and it is late now, but it is good."
Al-Afandi, 49, says most of the Syrian refugees now living in the U.S. and Europe would prefer to be in their native land, living in a functioning country.
He says Trump has taken a big step in helping that happen."If Syria comes back as before and we get rid of Al-Assad, I would be the first one to go back," he said. "I don't want to be a refugee."
