A 15 year old girl was found shot to death, riddled with at least four bullets, in a northwest side apartment today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say they were led to the dead girl by the man who shot her...after he shot himself in the chest in a field in the 1100 block of Babcock Road, just down the street from where the girl was shot to death.
"When the officers arrived at the apartment, they did notice forced entry," Officer Doug Greene said. "There was a 15 year old female who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced deceased.
He says even though she was dead when officers arrived, they transported her to the hospital anyway.
"She was nine months pregnant, and they did transport the victim to University Hospital in an attempt to save the baby, but unfortunately the baby did not survive as well," Greene said.
The victim has been identified as Jennifer Delgado.
He said the 35 year old man who shot him was still alive, and an ambulance was able to get him to the hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
Greene says Jennifer's one year old baby was in a crib in the apartment at the time, but the baby was not hurt.
A relative of the girl was seen rushing to the crime scene and crying and screaming. He was comforted by police.
Greene says there 'was a relationship' between the gunman, who is in his mid thirties, and the girl, who was 15, but he didn't say what that relationship is.
Greene says if the man survives, he will face a murder charge.
