Hadley Barrett, Long Time Voice of the San Antonio Rodeo, Dies at 87

Hadley Barrett, who was the Voice of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo for 28 years, died today at the age of 87, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Barrett was a member of the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, and four time PRCA Announcer of the year.

Friends recall Barrett had the unique ability to explain idiosyncrasies of rodeo to those less familiar with the sport - he intimately knew the resume of the contestants, would explain the scoring system, and even knew the demeanor and habits of the bucking stock.

Hadley Barrett loved the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.  At a wrap up meeting this past weekend he said, “Of all the years I’ve been announcing, that San Antonio Finals was the best Rodeo I have ever announced.”

He was perhaps best known for giving the invocation before every rodeo performance. And Barrett wasn't done.  He was scheduled to announce the Austin Rodeo later this month.
