A baggage handler at Austin Bergstrom International Airport has been arrests on charges that he rummaged through checked suitcases stealing guns, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Ja'Quan Johnson, 25, of Austin, is charged with theft from an interstate shipment and possession of stolen firearms.
Federal prosecutors say Johnson, whose job included transporting checked baggage through security to the airplanes, stole numerous handguns from inside passenger bags between November of 2016, and lat month.
The FBI has recovered seven firearms allegedly stolen by Johnson.They say Johnson exchanged several other stolen guns for marijuana.He could get ten years if convicted.
Federal law requires all but authorized law enforcement agents to place firearms only in checked baggage when boarding commercial flights.
