95% of Storm Debris Now Cleared from Hard-Hit NE Side

In many of the neighborhoods hit hard by a five tornado flurry eight days ago, you can't even tell there was ever any damage.

1200 WOAI news reports city crews have removed 95% of the tree limbs, brush, and damage debris from  streets, yards, and rights of way, and the debris removal effort will continue for the remainder of this week.

City crews from several departments were assisted over the weekend by several volunteer groups, from the Lee High School football team to the Texas Baptist Men and the Church of Latter Day Saints.

City crews will continue making passes up and down streets in the hard hit northeast side through Friday, and the Bitters Road Brush Recycling Site will remain open seven days a week for resident to drop of brush for free.

Today, the recovery swings into a new phase, as the Texas Department of Emergency Management and the Small Business administration will visit the hardest hit areas.  They will be discussing low interest SBA loans which were made available through the disaster declaration, and giving homeowners and small businesses information on how to apply. The loans will help with repairs not covered by insurance, and will help small businesses that suffered damage quickly get back to full operation.
