A combination of the unseasonably warm spring weather and plentiful rain is giving us an early treat on the side of the road---the wildflowers are making an early appearance this year, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The best blooms for those obligatory child in the wildflower portraits right now are along I-37 between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, according to Andrea DeLaune of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.
But does this early color mean we'll see a brighly colored spring along all our roadways. She says...we'll have to wait and see.
"If we continue to get good rains for the rest fo the spring, then they'll probably continue until the end of April, early May, which is pretty typical," she said.
She says while the flowers are blooding in assorted places around the region, you might want to wait a little while to put your cute child out in the flowers for that roadside portrait."
It'll probably be a little bit early," she said. "I'm going to guess the peak will be, maybe three weeks from now."
But she says just because the bluebonnets are out early this year, doesn't mean the crop will be bigger, or brighter, or more widespread.
"We had a nice warm winter, pleasant for people even though it is a little bit bizarre," she said. "And because of that, the plants are growing a little earlier than average."
