Mayor Ivy Taylor late Monday issued a disaster declaration for the City of San Antonio, saying it will help secure state and federal funding to help the recovery from four tornadoes that hit the metro area late Sunday and early Monday, NewsRadio 1200 WOAI reports.
"I spent several hours today surveying the damage in different neighborhoods near the Quarry and was amazed to see roofs ripped off homes only to be found mangled in branches several doors down," she said.
The Mayor said police will be expanding patrols in the affected areas to insure safety and security.
The four tornadoes, one of which stayed on the ground for more than four miles, caused significant damage to more than 100 homes in San Antonio.
An emergency shelter has been set up at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
