State Senator Says She 'Won't be Deterred' by Trump Threats

Texas State Senator Konni Burton says she will 'not be discouraged' by a threat by the President of the United States to 'destroy her career,' News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The Ft. Worth Republican who calls herself a 'libertarian' is believed to be the 'Texas Senator' that a north Texas sheriff complained about to Trump during a White House meeting on Tuesday.

When Rockwall County Sheriff Harold Evanson told the President that a 'state senator,' who he did not name, was potentially costing his department badly needed funds by sponsoring laws to eliminate so called'asset forfeiture laws,' Trump said 'We'll destroy his career.'

It is believed to be Burton, who succeeded 2014 gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis in the State Senate, who Evanson was referring to.

In a statement today, Burton didn't speculate on whether she was the Senator who was being discussed, and said she has never met Evanson.

Asset Forfeiture laws allow law enforcement to seize the assets of individuals who they 'suspect' of being involved in criminal activity, even if they have never been convicted of a crime.

Burton's proposal would revive the laws to require a conviction before any assets are forfeited.
