San Antonio Becomes 'Computer Game Central' This Weekend

Tens of thousands of video game players, creators, artists and financiers will be descending upon the Riverwalk, starting today, for a huge conference called Pax South, and organizers say this will have a huge impact on the city's growing tech economy

"People around the world are recognizing that San Antonio is both a  fun friendly city but also a city that you can afford to do business in, and has city that has a rising scene that's really exciting," Rick Stemm, who led the initial group of creatives to get San Antonio involved, tells Newsradio 1200 WOAI.

Some 50 thousand video game fans will be part of the event, which starts today and runs through the weekend.

Now in its third year, the event has grown so big, Nintendo is using it to debut their new Switch console.

Stemm says the attitude toward gamers is changing.

It's no longer awkward nerds who are glued to the TV in their parent's basement.

"To give you an example of the economy, video games as a whole, the industry makes more money than the film and music industries combined."
