Routine Speeding Stop Leads to Human Trafficking Charges

A routine traffic stop in New Bruanfels has ended with a girl who was being sexually trafficked being released, and a man facing top count felony charges of human sexual trafficking, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The traffic stop took place at I-35 and 337 in New Braunfels, where the driver had been clocked speeding.  Police say the officer smelled marijuana, and also felt there was something odd about the 30 year old man and the 14 year old girl traveling together.

Officers held the two on the marijuana charge, while they looking into the girl's background.  It turns out she was a runaway out of Dallas.

Additional checking revealed the man was pimping out the girl for sex in San Antonio, Austin, and Louisiana.

30 year old Roderick Tasby of Dallas was then charged with Human Trafficking, a first degree felony calling for up to life in prison.

The warrant charges Tasby with "knowingly transporting a juvenile female in support of prostitution, and profiting financially from her involvement in prostitution."

Bond for Tasby is set at $300,000.  The girl has been reunited with her family.
