Officials in Kinney County, which is west of Uvalde, said today they put down a riot by 65 inmates at a private run prison, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The riot took place at the Kinney County Detention Center south of Brackettville. It is operated by C.E.C. Incorporated and holds prisoners held by the prison's sole contractor, the U.S. Marshal's Service.
Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe says the inmates took partial control of the prison, and were 'actively participating in the riot.'
He says Kinney County Deputies and other law enforcement agencies responded to the riot. He says a Border Patrol Tactical Unit entered the facility and subdued the 'hostile detainees.'
He says nobody was injured and nobody escaped.
"I am extremely proud of my deputies for their quick response and courage," Coe said. "The multi-agency response cooperation that occurred here was second to none."
Coe didn't say what prompted the riot, or how much damage was done to the facility.
