Second Bizarre Scam in a Week Hits New Braunfels

Somebody out there must thing Germans are really gullible, because New Braunfels has been hit by its second creative scammer in a week, New Braunfels Police tell 1200 WOAI news.

Police say a man has been attempting to gain access to homes by using the 'find my phone' app, which is common on smart phones.

Police say over the weekend, two residents reported a man, described as in his late teens or early twenties, knocked at the door of a home and showed the homeowner his smart phone, complete with a map showing his phone 'pinging' inside the home.

In neither case did the man gain entrance to the home, but police think he was up to no good.  One of the homes was in the Avery Park subdivision in New Braunfels, the other was not far from the TA Truck Stop on the city's north side.

Police encourage anybody else who is victimized by this scammer to call police, and not let the individual inside.

Just last week, a San Antonio man was arrested for pulling a scam on three New Braunfels restaurants.

In that case, the scammer would go into the restaurants, claim a waitress spilled food all over him, and demand cash for either dry cleaning bills or new clothes.
