For the second time in three days, police descended on a San Antonio shopping mall today after receiving reports of a shooting, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police Sgt. Jesse Salome says it is unclear if any shots were actually fired in the mid day incident at Ingram Park Mall on the city's northwest side, and nobody was hurt, but he says a very real confrontation sparked the report.
"A woman and her daughter were walking into the store when they were approached by two Hispanic males in a green SUV," Salome said. "They both jumped out of the vehicle and confronted the woman and her daughter. They pointed guns at them and said, 'we're going to kill you'."
The two ran into a Macy's store, where employees urged all customers to hide in a back room.
Both women are adults, he said.
"It was really scary for me," said one woman who said she spent about a half hour in a storeroom until police gave the all-clear. "I just can't imagine this was happening to me."
Another woman said she was rushed into a changing room.
"I was hiding in there for, like, thirty minutes," she said.
Police say the two men in the SUV were seen speeding away down Loop 410, which runs in front of the mall.
A high school across Loop 410 from the mall was briefly locked down.
"There was no demand made," he said.
He said police are unsure if the confrontation was part of a robbery attempt. He said the women told detectives the men's faces were covered, but they didn't know them.
"These men simply told the women they were going to kill them," Salome said. "As they were running away, witnesses reported hearing two to three gunshots being fired."
He said detectives are still looking for evidence that shots were fired.
On Sunday afternoon, one shopper was killed and two others wounded as two armed robbers were confronted by patrons as they were running out of a jewelry store after robbing it inside Rolling Oaks Mall on the other side of the city.
One of the robbers was shot by an armed shopper. Both of the robbers today were charged with capital murder, charges which could carry the death penalty.
One is in the Bexar County jail, the other remains in the hospital in critical condition. Bond for both is set at $1.7 million.
