Republcians in the Texas Legislature are pushing ahead with plans to approve a 'Constitutional carry' bill, which would essentially allow anybody who can legally purchase a gun to walk out of the store without the needs to get a permit, pay a fee, or take a class, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
State Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Ft. Worth) says the more guns in the hands of law abiding people, the better. "Look no further than Chicago, where they have tried to say that guns are outlawed in every which way that they can," he said. "Crime rates are higher there than just about any country in the world."
Stickland says the Second Amendment is clear, that the 'right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." He says the current law strips the Constitutional rights, for example, from people who cannot afford a handgun permit.
"There is certain evil in the world, I am not going to deny that," he said. "But what we see time and time again, is, an armed society is a safe society."
Last session, campus carry and open carry measures passed the Legislature. This session, Constitutional Carry is gaining support.
