SCOTUS Halts Execution Of Convicted Killer In Texas

The execution of Texas death row inmate Ruben Gutierrez is indefinitely stayed after a last-minute intervention by the U.S. Supreme Court. Gutierrez was 20-minutes from his death by lethal injection on Tuesday evening for the murder of 85-year-old Escolastica Harrison in Brownsville. He was convicted more than 25-years ago and is now 47. Gutierrez and his attorneys claim DNA testing of evidence would exonerate him of the murder.
