The possible demolition of the old sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs is the subject of a lawsuit. In November 2017, the building was the site of a mass shooting that killed 26 church members and wounded 22 more. In August 2021, the congregation voted to tear the building down. The lawsuit filed last month claims memberships of survivors and victims' families were thrown out before the vote was taken. The plaintiffs are seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent demolition until the lawsuit is settled.
