A Texas man who shot and killed a Black Lives Matter protester is now a free man. Governor Greg Abbott signed the pardon proclamation on Thursday for Daniel Perry, who was released from prison within the hour. A jury convicted Perry last year for the shooting death of 28-year-old Garrett Foster during a 2020 protest in Austin. Perry drove into the crowd by accident, felt threatened when he saw Foster with a rifle, and shot him with a handgun. He was sentenced to 25-years. Governor Abbott asked the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to intervene.
