👨🚀 As a 4th grader at Glenoaks Elementary School and self-proclaimed NASA freak, I was so captivated by the unfolding drama that I pleaded with my mom to let me stay home from school just to watch the live TV coverage the next several days. Thankfully, she agreed, understanding how much it meant to me. What unfolded on TV was nothing short of miraculous, as Mission Control in Houston worked tirelessly to devise a plan to safely bring the astronauts home.
I recall an Apollo-era movie titled "Marooned" was playing at the Central Park Fox theater at the time and they took the word "Marooned" off the marquee and left it empty.
🌍 Against all odds, the team on the ground exemplified teamwork and innovation under pressure. Their success in guiding Apollo 13 back to Earth remains one of the most dramatic tales of resilience and human ingenuity in the face of the unknown.
