Texas Rangers Coach Hector Ortiz Dies Of Cancer

The Texas Rangers are mourning the loss of a longtime coach in the organization. Hector Ortiz died on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. He was 54. Ortiz spent the last three years as a coach on the minor league development staff after serving under former big league managers Jeff Banister and Chris Woodward. His career also included stints as the first-base coach, bullpen coach and catching coordinator. The former catcher was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988. He played in 100 career major league games with the Kansas City Royals and Rangers.
